Dooars Terai

Dooars or Duars are plains in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in north east India and the major portion of it lies in the state of West Bengal in India. Dooars politically constitutes the plains of Darjeeling district, whole of Jalpaiguri District, upper region of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal and the districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Goalpara and Bongaigaon in the Indian state of Assam. Brahmaputra and Manas in Assam and Jaldhaka, Murti, Torsha, Sankosh, Dyna, Karatowa, Raidak, Kaljani are some of the rivers crossing the Dooars.

Duar means door and form the gateway to Bhutan and all the north eastern states of India. With stretches of tea gardens, national parks, sanctuary and rivers cutting cross the area makes it the tourist hotspot of north Bengal. With background of the Himalayas this region is a paradise for nature lovers. Wildlife sanctuaries and national park like the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary; Buxa National Park; Gorumara National Park; Chapramari Wildlife Reserve; and the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal and Manas National Park in Assam are the major tourist attraction. We can organize the stay near any of the wild life centers and organize visit or safari to the watch towers of the park or Sanctuary like Jatraprasad Watch Tower, Rhino Observation Point, Chandrachur Watch Tower or Chukchuki Bird Watch Tower.

Jaldapara

Jaldapara Sanctuary is nearly 124 kilometers from Siliguri. Rare one horned rhinoceros, bison, leopard, spotted deer, sambar, hog deer, reptiles, huge wild tuskers, wild boars and the rarest variety of animals and birds including plenty of peacocks. Elephant ride and jeep safari is two of the most exciting features of this region. Bindu and Samsing are small hamlet in the border of Bhutan and Toto Para nearly 25 kilometers from Jaldapara is worth visiting. Bindu, Jhalang, Khaerbari and Kunjaban are few of the places of interest which can be visited from here. Jaldapara is one of the most luxuriant forests of the region and is surrounded by tea estates. Each year some of the leopards are found in this tea estate. Herds of bison or elephants breaking down villages of the area are a normal incident. Dooars is vast stretch of dense forests teeming with wildlife, unending tea gardens, fast flowing rivers, interspersed with sleepy or busy settlements. The resorts and hotels here are few but are worth enjoying. Tribes of the regions are colorful and hospitable. Elephant, Indian Bison and deer can be spotted easily as they regularly come to the salt reservoir just below the tower.

Gorumara & Chapramari

National Park of Gorumara is nearly 75 kilometers from Siliguri, Chapramari forests nearly 80 kilometers from Siliguri. A visit to the greenery of the nature and resting a few days and nights in the midst of forests, rivers and wildlife will definitely instill new life and inspiration to all. Rare one horned rhinoceros, herd of bison, leopard, spotted deer, sambar, hog deer, reptiles, huge wild tuskers, wild boars and the rarest variety of animals and birds including plenty of peacocks can be spotted here. Elephant, Indian Bison and deer can be spotted easily as they regularly come to the salt reservoir just below the tower. Elephant ride and jeep safari is two of the most exciting features of this region. Stay at Malbazar, Jaldapara, Chalsa, Murti, Hollong, Madarihat, Gorumara, Samsing can be arranged by us. The region is crossed by the rivers like Teesta, Raidak, Torsha, Jaldhaka, Kalchini, Dyna, Neora, and Sankosh which floods during monsoons and are favourite spot for the fauna of the region. One can easily spot animals in the banks of these rivers either in the early morning or in the evening. Bison, deer’s, elephants visit in herd. One can even visit Rocky Island, Phuentsholing, Thimpu and Punakha in Bhutan from here.

Buxa & Jayanti

Buxa Tiger Reserve is nearly 200 kilometers from Siliguri and was declared a National Park in January 1992. The name has been derived from Buxa Fort – a fort at an altitude of 850 meters on the Sinchula Range. Wild life includes Leopard, spotted deer, sambar, hog deer, reptiles, huge wild tuskers, wild boars and the rarest variety of animals and birds including plenty of peacocks. Jeep safari is one of the most exciting features of this region. Bhutanghat, Buxa Fort, Rajabhatkhawa nature interpretation center, Jayanti, Mendabari, Chilapata are some of the nearby places of interest. Even Cooch Behar and Rasik bill is nearby and is a couple of hors drive. Madan Mohan Temple, Rajbari or Palace, Baneswar Siva Temple visit can be arranged by us. Dooars is vast texture of massive trees sheltering varieties of orchids and wild animals make it is a paradise for lovers of nature, adventurer, academicians and tourism. Buxa tiger reserve stretches to Rasikbill in Alipurduar and stretches to Bhutan. It has rich bio – diversity and has a great collection of rare orchids and plants including medicinal plants. There are number of rare and endangered species of animals like leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, make their habitats and other animals includes different types of deer, bison, birds and reptiles. There are Tortoise of various species in the east of Dooars.
